  • HAWAII NEWS NOW Honolulu police investigated the scene of a pedestrian accident on Nimitz Highway Sunday night.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office today identified a man killed Sunday night while jaywalking across Nimitz Highway near River Street as Masakazu Toguchi of Kalihi.

Police said the accident occurred 6:15 p.m. where Nimitz Highway crosses Nuuanu Stream.

The 63-year-old pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a 2004 silver Ford truck, which was heading west in the left lane of Nimitz Highway, driven by 47-year-old man.

The injured man was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with internal injuries where he died.

This was Oahu’s 44th traffic death, compared to 52 at the same time a year ago.
