Man chases off would-be robbers at UH-Hilo

Two men wearing hoodies, masks and baseball caps tried to rob a man at the Campus Center Plaza at the University of Hawaii-Hilo Wednesday morning, campus security reported.

The incident happened at about 4:50 a.m.

The two suspects approached the victim and asked for a lighter, then grabbed the victim’s backpack and lighter, UH-Hilo campus security reported.

The victim struggled with the suspects, who then ran off with his belongings. The victim chased after them and they dropped the backpack and laptop and left the campus heading toward Kapiolani Street, according to the campus security report.

Hawaii County Police are investigating.
