  • High surf to pounded Makapuu on Sept. 7. (Star-Advertiser file)

A high surf advisory is in effect for all islands through 6 p.m. tonight.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service expect surf up to 6 to 9 feet this morning along east shores, dropping to 5 to 8 feet this afternoon.

Beachgoers are advised to heed all advice given by lifeguards and be aware of strong longshore and rip currents, which could make swimming hazardous.
