NOAA/NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

Forecasters expect some rain clouds to move over the state from the north starting tonight.

Keep an umbrella handy as forecasters are expecting showers tonight through Tuesday for the Hawaiian islands with a chance of vog later in the week and the possibility of a wet weekend.

What forecasters are calling “an area of enhanced moisture” is expected to move south over the state this evening, following fairly dry weather this afternoon.

“Expect an increase in shower activity particularly across windward and mauka areas. The stronger trade winds will allow some of the showers to spill into leeward areas as well,” the National Weather Service said.

The rainy weather is likely to reach Kauai this evening and Oahu later tonight and should continue through Tuesday.

One of two cold fronts approaching the state is expected to stall near Kauai and could cut off the tradewinds on Wedesday.

The light winds may allow rain clouds to form over leeward areas in the afternoon because of daytime heating.

Southeasterly winds could also bring some vog over Oahu and other western islands Thursday and Friday.

A second cold front could bring rains this weekend, the weather service said.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for partly cloudy skies with a 50 percent chance of rain through Tuesday night.

Temperatures will be cool at night, dropping into the 60s.

Wednesday should be mostly sunny, with light winds Thursday and Friday and the possiblity of hazy skies.

Expect partly sunny to mostly cloudy weather this weekend with scattered showers and cool temperatures continuing at night.

  1. Mr Mililani says:

Now even the weather forecast is “politically” correct. We are not going to have rain but “areas of enhanced moisture”. Thank goodness I don’t remember Ben G ever using the term. I’m not so sure about Guy Haggi. When he comes on, we change channels since he gets pretty hysterical sometimes. Hope somebody tells the guy to calm down. It’s only weather and no matter how much we talk about it, we aren’t going to change it.
