Koa Smith was a highlight reel all by himself during the opening day of the Volcom Pipe Pro on Saturday.

A large northwest swell spreading across the island chain prompted weather officials to post a high surf advisory for the north and west shores of most islands today.

Surf up to 16 to 22 feet is expected to roll into the north shores of Oahu, Kauai County, Maui and Molokai today, decreasing overnight, according to the National Weather Service. Surf up to 14 to 19 feet is expected along the west shores of Kauai County today, decreasing to 10 to 15 feet overnight.

The high surf advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Beachgoers are advised to heed advice given by lifeguards and exercise caution.
