COURTESY HAWAII COUNTY POLICE James Thomas

Authorities accused an Ocean View man of setting fire to his home while two women and two boys were inside the structure.

James M. Thomas, 38, is charged with first-degree arson, first-degree terroristic threatening and four counts of second-degree reckless endangering in connection with a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

He was being held at the Kona police cellblock on $64,000 bail after being charged Thursday.

Police said the house on the 92-8200 block of Bamboo Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates was a total loss, with damage estimated at $145,000.

The fire had engulfed the home by the time firefighters and officers arrived at 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators determined that Thomas intentionally started the fire at the home where he and his family lived, while two women and two teenage boys were inside. No one was injured.

Officers arrested Thomas at the scene.
