Police reopen all lanes of H-1 eastbound

Traffic on the H-1 eastbound was backed up even after police reopened four lanes that had to be closed after a vehicle accident early this morning between the Kaahumanu overpass and Aiea Heights.
Police have reopened all lanes of H-1 eastbound in Pearl City after an earlier vehicle accident forced the closure of four lanes and the opening of the Zipper lane to all traffic.
The state Department of Transportation opened up the Zipper lane to all traffic around 5:35 a.m.
The vehicle accident occurred just before 5 a.m. and forced police to close four lanes of the H-1 freeway.
There were no immediate reports of serious injuries.

We don’t need a rail line to improve improve gridlock… We need the police to take a few quick photos and of an accident
and get everything out of the way.
Rail will give west side residents an alternative fast train ride whisking them past the congestion to work downtown. We need to be less car-centric. Rail will provide a great relief to this kind of traffic frustration.

The problem was the oil spill that needed to be cleaned up. It easy to move cars off the road, but when you have oil on the road HFD needs to be called out to absorb the oil and wash it down. HPD needs to do what it needs to do. The problem is not HPD or HFD, this is not a pro-rail anti-rail issue, this is about citizens driving badly. Accidents are avoidable. You try driving H-1 at 5:00 am and you always see a couple of knuckleheads cranking it down the road at 70 MPH and/or cutting in an out of traffic. Then you have the guys drinking coffee and grinding on their McD’s breakfast while driving, and don’t get me started on the people who for some unknown reason need to be on their mobile phones at 5 in the darn morning while driving in. Geez.
My puppies could be grinding their food for them.
Totally agree with your assessment HCB. Instead of concentrating on their driving, they doing something else. That’s why get so many accidents. All avoidable.
There are no police on patrol at 3 to 5 in the morning, that’s the best time to speed, when everybody is in a hurry to go to work before the traffic starts.
it continues to be mind boggling why the people who are responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of our complex roadway system and the police department do not have a clue let alone a plan to address even the smallest traffic incident on our roadways let alone a “accident” to shut down all lanes of the major arterial due to an accident; says one thing, they have their heads so far up where the sun does not shine that it is borderline insanity, it is not political, it is incompetence on the part of our civil service system.
Gotta laugh at how backwards the Nei is when it comes to traffic accident management.
In many states to include California, there are signs along the road stating, “Minor accident, car drivable, move to the road side.” Yet in the Nei when there is the smallest fender bender, everyone gets out of their cars, mill around like ants to honey, dial 911, and marvel at how fast they back up traffic. No thought of moving off the main roadway. Sad.

Gotta laugh when posters don’t know all the facts before putting down the Nei. The major cause of the delay in clearing the accident area was cleaning up the subsequent oil spill. The cars involved were already long gone.
But because we’re in a place where OT is gold, I’m sure da boyz were lollygagging and talking story while breaking a sweat

I am. I watch the morning and evening news while I eat my breakfast and dinner and see all the Westsiders/Central Oahu residents inching away. I live in Central Oahu, so, no need be in that mess. Don’t want rail, keep doing what you’re doing, then. I’m not a fan of rail, but, I’m not stuck on H1.
