Rainbow Warrior volleyball falls to Long Beach State

Freshman hitter TJ DeFalco put down a team-high 17 kills and No. 1 Long Beach State snapped a four-match losing streak to Hawaii, defeating the Warriors 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20 in tonight’s Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The 49ers (14-2, 11-2) extended their winning streak to eight when handing the Warriors their second straight loss and fifth in six matches.

Freshman opposite Stijn van Tilburg led Hawaii (10-6, 5-6) with 17 kills.

Warrior coach Charlie Wade pulled most of his starters after Set 2, going with five freshmen, a seldom-used senior hitter and senior libero Kolby Kanetake. Kanetake finished with 11 digs.

The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sheriff Center.

Long Beach State outblocked Hawaii 17.5-3.
