A man died Saturday after getting into trouble in the water off Ninini Beach.

About 5:15 p.m., firefighters responded to a report about a swimmer in distress in the area also known as Running Waters, a Kauai County spokeswoman said.

Firefighters found the man unresponsive underwater in a cave and brought him to shore where they performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
