Funeral being held for officer killed her 1st day on the job
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. » A Virginia police officer who was fatally shot her first day on the job is being laid to rest next to her father in a Massachusetts cemetery.
Police motorcycles escorted the hearse carrying the body of Officer Ashley Guindon from a funeral home to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Springfield today.
Police motorcycles also lined the route while hundreds of officers stood at attention outside the church.
Burial will be at St. Thomas the Apostle cemetery in West Springfield.
The 28-year-old Guindon lived in western Massachusetts before her family moved to New Hampshire.
She was killed Feb. 27 while responding to a domestic dispute at a home in Woodbridge, Virginia. She had been sworn in as a Prince William County officer the previous day.
