Michigan finishes off 4-game sweep of baseball ‘Bows

No. 19 Michigan completed a four-game sweep of Hawaii with a 5-3 victory in the second game of today’s doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Wolverines (11-3) scored seven runs over the final two innings of the first game to win 9-4.

Both games were seven innings.

Hawaii (6-11) has lost a season-high five straight.

Michigan’s Cody Bruder went 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the first game. Hawaii jumped out to a 2-0 lead through three innings and led 3-2 after five.

Starter Alex Hatch (1-2) was tagged for three runs in the sixth inning and Michigan tacked on four more off reliever Josh Pigg in the seventh inning.

Hatch retired the first 10 batters he faced but ended up with the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in six innings with two walks and four strikeouts.

Lawrence Chew (0-1) got the start in the second game and took the loss. Michigan scored three runs in the fourth off of Chew, who allowed two singles and an RBI double to Johnny Slater before exiting.

Alex Fitchett, who had two hits in the first game, singled home Jacob Sheldon-Collins in the fourth inning.

Marcus Doi singled to load the bases with nobody out, but UH failed to score.

Matt LoCoco added an RBI single with two outs in the seventh and scored on a passed ball for the final margin.

Up next for Hawaii is a four-game series against Chicago State beginning Thursday night.

    Wow! Getting swept for four games straight is not good, no matter who you face. Disappointing to sat the least. Hope the Bow Baseball team can salvage some pride and learn to fight harder!
