Firefighters extinguish scrap metal blaze on Big Isle
It took Big Island firefighters two hours to extinguish an early morning fire at an industrial scrap metal recycler in Keeau today.
The fire at the Kalara Street business was reported at 1:32 a.m. at a 10-foot tall scrap metal pile that firefighters said was threatening several metal compactors. Firefighters had to cut locks to the property.
Damage was estimated at $6,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
