Returning tradewinds should blow vog away this weekend
Patchy vog on Oahu should be blown away by returning tradewinds by Friday, heralding a return of pleasant tradewind weather this weekend.
But it won’t last long.
Another cold front is moving toward Hawaii, bringing light, southeasterly winds and a return of humid conditions and vog on Monday, National Weather Service forecasters said.
Meanwhile, a northwest swell is declining, but surf remains at advisory heights on north and west shores of most islands and at warning-level heights of 10 to 12 feet on the Big Island.
Hawaii County closed three west-facing beaches — Kahaluu, and Laaloa or Magic Sands beach parks; and Kaunaoa Bay at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel; and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources closed Kekaha Kai State Park-Maniniowali because of the high surf today.
West-facing beaches on Oahu, Kauai, Niihau and Molokai can expect surf of 16 to 22 feet today to diminish to 8 to 12 feet Friday.

Surf of 16 to 22 feet on north shores, including Maui, today is expected to lower to 8 to 12 feet Friday.
Tradewinds of 5 to 15 mph are expected to return on Friday, blowing away the vog from Oahu and other islands. The tradewinds will increase to 10 to 20 mph over the weekend.
The return of the tradewinds will also likely mean isolated windward and mauka showers in the mornings. But conditions are expected to remain mostly dry, until a new cold front reaches the state, likely on Tuesday.
