Bacon is better with bourbon

What goes better with bacon than eggs? Bourbon. The food and beverage team at the Moana Surfrider sets out to prove it at this month’s LOL (Love of Libations).

A cocktail and bourbon-and-bacon-inspired morsels go for $25 in the hotel’s Vintage 1901 restaurant. The drinking begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Tickets available at honoluluboxoffice.com. Call 921-4600.

‘Royal Breakfast’ begins

Breakfast lovers have a new place to check out.

The “Royal Breakfast Buffet” opened Friday at the Surf Lanai, on the grounds of The Royal Hawaiian.

Offerings include fresh Kahuku papaya, muesli, smoked salmon salad with minibagels, pipikaula spinach breakfast sandwiches and a waffle bar.

The “Only at the Royal” menu features made-to-order items such as Pink Palace pancakes with guava raspberry shortcake compote and a Royal Loco Moco.

Breakfast hours are 6:30 to 11 a.m. daily; lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 923-7311. Validated parking.

Seafood dinner, demo, tour

Also at the Royal Hawaiian, chefs Colin Hazama and Shaymus Alwin partner with fish aficionado Brooks Takenaka of United Fishing Agency for this month’s “Fanta-Sea.”

The two-day event begins with a “Fanta-Sea Table” collaboration dinner, 6 p.m. April 22 at Azure restaurant.

Then, on April 23, Takenaka will lead a tour of the fish market at Pier 38, followed by a return to the Royal Hawaiian for a cooking demonstration and lunch in the Kamehameha Suite.

Cost is $250 ($280, with wine pairings at dinner). Call 921-4600.
