BILOXI, Miss. » Canadian rocker Bryan Adams is canceling a performance this week in Mississippi, citing the state’s new law that allows religious groups and some private businesses to refuse service to gay couples.

Adams said in a statement tonight that he was canceling a show Thursday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.

The singer says he can’t “in good conscience” perform in a state where “certain people are being denied their civil rights due to their sexual orientation.”

The move comes after Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band canceled a Sunday show in Greensboro, North Carolina, because of the state’s new law blocking anti-discrimination rules for the LGBT community.

The Mississippi law will take effect July 1. Supporters say it offers protection for Christians who adhere to traditional views of marriage and gender roles.

As if another reason was needed to avoid Mississippi. The south remains in 1950, marinating in its hate, ignorance and bigotry.

  2. serious says:

So a rocker cancels his trip–does anyone really care???

    • krusha says:

Probably just the tip of the iceberg with many others following suit. In this day and age, that’s the only way to enact change when people realize the consequences of passing hateful laws to please the fanatics living in their state.

    • sjean says:

I’m pretty sure the people who earn a meager paycheck selling food and drink at the concessions care. (As well as the parking attendants.) Ever been outside your cave serious? Hundreds of people just lost out on a paycheck because of this cancellation. It’s called economic consequence.

    • btaim says:

Yes, many people care. It’s not the fact that Bryan Adams happens to be a rocker. The broader message is that people should not be doing business – of any kind – in a state that is so hateful and discriminatory to people born a certain way. It’s absurd that Mississippi bases it’s new law on the supposed protection of Christians and others. Aren’t these the very people who should be loving, inclusive and non-discriminatory?

You don’t seem to understand how discrimination on “religious beliefs” allows for all sorts of terrible outcomes.

Including the government eventually deciding what is and is not a real religious belief within mainstream religions.

That is something we all should seek to avoid.

He didn’t cite the fact that he only was able to fill half the venue? Good way to get out of the contract.

This guy has NO say in America’s affairs!! Another self inflicted shot in the feet!! Go Back to Canada Bro!!

  5. wrightj says:

First Bruce, now Bryan; who will be next to cancel?

  6. Ronin006 says:

I do not believe gays and lesbians have any problem with being forced to use restrooms based on their biological sex. After all, isn’t that upon what their “love” is based? The issue is with trans genders who claim they feel like someone of the opposite sex. That is unfortunate, but I do not believe someone’s personal feelings should force everyone else to allow people of the opposite sex into their restrooms or showers. It is wrong to take away the rights of the majority for the sake of the minority. I suppose we will now have to cut toilet seats in half to accommodate all the half-azzes in the country, and believe me, there are lots of them.

      Ronin006…..Excellent post as usual!!!

    • Mr Mililani says:

Ronin…more Republican politicians have been arrested in bathrooms than these people.

    • choyd says:

Why am I not surprised that you see no problems forcing for most intensive purposes, men, to use a women’s restroom risking being pepper sprayed or maced and being detained by the police?

Or that you see no problem forcing for most intensive purposes, women, to use a men’s bathroom risking sexual assault and harassment.

You belong in a cave back in the paleocene era.
