Is is just me, or has anyone else notice an increase in gun-related incidents? I guess Obama didn’t get all those guns (and Bibles) after all.

I haven’t noticed a local increase in gun-related crimes but I have seen more surly and uncouth behavior among Hawaii people in the last few years. There are a lot more four-letter words used in public as well as a greater acceptance of foul language as a way of getting your point across. If you look around, you may also have noticed fewer and fewer people care to push their chairs back in at tables in public places. Why this is? It’s anyone’s guess, but it could be due to people expecting instant gratification in all things these days.

I agree. I work in Waikiki part-time and you would not believe what I see, hear and smell.

On occasion I’m tempted to say, “Hey buddy, was you born in one barn or what?” Except for a few times, I’ve refrained from doing so. With more and more people approving of extreme views and behaviors lately, no sense risking a punch in the mouth or worse.

A lot of us have worked in Waikiki and, you’re correct: most wouldn’t believe a thing you write.

          Well, maybe what you’ve smelled…

It’s poor upbringing, totally, I’m afraid.

The shooting this morning is now a homicide. There has been a steady uptick in the number of crimes involving firearms in Hawaii. Firearms registrations have risen, but perhaps the number of illegal firearms smuggled into the state appears to mirror that of the the proliferation of illegal fireworks, too.

        • TigerEye says:

I’d like to see data on an increase in firearm-related crimes in Hawaii because I really haven’t noticed it in the news. I’d also venture a guess that illegal firearms in Hawaii have less to do with smuggling than unplanned changes in ownership.

Must have been overe the darn rooster noise.

A better (than Obama and Bible) corollary would be with the rail. Yes, I said “better” not “good.”

    Drive by shooting.
