High surf advisory in effect for north, west shores of most islands
The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, and for north shores of Maui.
The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters expect a large northwest swell to build late tonight, peak Tuesday and then decline Tuesday night.
Surf along north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai, and north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui is expected to be 12 to 16 feet.
West shores of Oahu and Molokai can expect surf between 8 to 12 feet.
Beachgoers can expect strong breaking waves that could make swimming difficult and dangerous.
