Cal Poly beats UH to take series
Brett Barbier and John Schuknecht gave Cal Poly the lead with back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning and the Mustangs picked up a series win over Hawaii with a 5-2 victory Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium.
Barbier scored twice and Josh George went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Mustangs (21-13, 4-2 Big West), who handed Hawaii (17-17, 6-3) its first Big West series defeat.
Alex Hatch (3-4) allowed five hits in six innings but was tagged for the go-ahead runs in the sixth to take the loss after Hawaii took a 2-1 lead.
Alex Fitchett doubled home a run and scored on a Matt LoCoco groundout for Hawaii’s only two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
LoCoco doubled and walked twice and Chayce Ka’aua singled and scored for UH, which finished with six hits.
Justin Calomeni struck out Marcus Doi, who hit his third triple of the season, with two on in the eighth inning and finished off the ninth to earn his fifth save.

The Rainbow Warriors, who trail Cal State Fullerton by one game, hit the road for their next seven, beginning with a series at Cal State Northridge (22-13, 1-8) on Friday.
