Santa Barbara routs Hawaii 14-2

Austin Bush homered and drove in five runs and Dempsey Grover added a three-run homer to lead No. 17 UC Santa Barbara to a 14-2 rout of Hawaii today in the opener of a three-game series at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Shane Bieber (8-2) struck out seven in seven innings for the Gauchos (27-10-1, 6-4), who handed Hawaii (18-21, 7-6) its sixth loss in seven games.

Brendan Hornung (3-7) suffered his shortest outing of the season and was rocked for eight runs and seven hits in four innings to take the loss.

Matt LoCoco was 2-for-2 with a walk and Ethan Lopez double and scored in the eighth inning for Hawaii’s only two runs.

UH has lost its last three games by a combined score of 36-7.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 11 a.m. Hawaii time.
