A cold front was approaching Kauai this afternoon and was expected to move over other islands tonight through Saturday.

Sunny and hazy skies over Honolulu late this morning are likely to turn cloudy and rainy this evening and overnight as a cold front begins to move over the state.

Forecasters expect the rains to clear and pleasant tradewind weather to return by Mother’s Day on Oahu and Kauai, although showers may linger on Maui and the Big Island as the front stalls over the eastern part of the state.

Most of the rain associated with the front is expected to fall over windward and north slopes of the islands.

Forecasters expect the front to reach Kauai this afternoon and evening, Oahu overnight and Maui County overnight into Saturday and the Big Island Saturday night.

Daytime heating may also bring rain to leeward areas of Oahu this afternoon. Some of those showers may be heavy.

The volcanic haze over Oahu should clear after the front passes and tradewinds return.

Meanwhile, a south swell may bring advisory level surf by Sunday.

Is this a similar forecast that was supposed to bring flash floods and torrential rains last night ?
