Bicycle vandals strike again at police memorial
Vandals struck again at the $7 million Hawaii Law Enforcement Memorial on state Capitol Civic Center grounds.
A city worker discovered what appeared to be bicycle tire markings all over the memorial Tuesday.
Similar tire or wheel markings were found on the memorial Friday.
Volunteers cleaned the area before Sunday’s dedication ceremony.
No arrests have been made.

time to put some CCTV’s there.
or SWAT team for such a desecration
I can’t believe nobody anticipated this. the design just invites it.
agree. there’s no excuse for the disrespect shown, but why did they design the memorial to look like a skate park? now they’ll either have to pay for security or modify the design because it’s unlikely these hooligans have any understanding of the word respect.
It’s ridiculous to blame the design! Its like blaming the people who make straight roads….so idiots can speed. Blame the stupid criminals and only the stupid criminals!!!
It is called camera or person surveillance or installed path breakup obstacles.
very sad but it is where we are in society now
It’s not the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington, but the damage is bad enough. I suppose we should be grateful he or she didn’t resort to using a hammer and chisel.
What a bunch of jerks! Hire a homeless guy to sleep there and be undercover!
Who ever is doing this needs some Serious Cracks !!
I thought there was gonna be security there after the first incident. Maybe NOW going get.
No need security. Have Tehani Maafala put the word out on the street this better stop or else. I want to shove their bicycles you know where.
All I can say is whoever is doing this are idiots and should be punished along with their parents. So maybe they will open their dumb eyes and think twice before the damage any private property.
I just hope they catch these kids/young adults. Once caught maybe HPD should do the same thing to them ride the bikes up there u know where
poor design
Kapahulu at Harding. HPD fighting crime. Seat belt trap. 6 officers.
Install pipe railing in front of the display.
Maybe the vandals are the 12 Menehune Senior’s just continuing their uncouth deed.
Its Caldwell’s bicycle gang. Seriously, a poor design and fore thought.
This is a act of desecration. I would not mind having HPD personnel go and take care of this off the clock…just make sure not to publicize.
“Vandals” show intention to damage. This is disrespectful and thoughtless, but not vandalism. Easy to fix.
No it’s vandalism.
Now, the vandals think it’s funny.
And imagine what else the perpetrator has done is his or her short and wasted life.
