Caldwell nominates attorney, hotel exec for police commission

Mayor Kirk Caldwell is nominating a civil attorney to the Honolulu Police Commission while proposing a hotel executive serve a new term on the carefully watched panel, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.
Loretta Sheehan, who is with the law firm of Davis Levin Livingston, serves on the Board of Advisors for the Domestic Violence Action Center and was previously a deputy prosecutor and assistant U.S. attorney. Sheehan would replace Helen Hamada, whose term has expired.
Sheehan’s term would expire Dec. 31, 2019.
Max Sword, an executive with Outrigger Enterprises, is being nominated for a second, full four-year term. His new term would expire Dec. 31, 2020.
Both appointments require confirmation by the Honolulu City Council.

she seems highly qualified. I hope she improves the lousy performance of this commission.

Too many officers kicked out for beating their wives. Domestic abuse is not a joke.

Why is Max Sword getting a second term?? He is part of the current, do nothing, police commission.

Probably because there’s a lot of organised crime in Waikiki. He wants HPD to work with the Feds, and Prosecutor Kaneshiro
This seems like an excellent choice. A couple more Loretta Sheehans in there and they might shake things a little there.
It seems to be working. Feds have been able to prosecute corruption in HPD. Perhaps the commissioners rather than HPD itself have made that happen.

The only Federal investigation that I know of is into Chief Keahola.p and our do nothing police commission has given him highest marks.
First one seems like a fresh, needed appointment. Second one….why??

Any attempt to enact any changes will be quickly quashed by the old boy commission. Truthfully she wasn’t nominated to make changes.
Yup, PRP head Taketa controls the commission.
I agree, she is ONLY window dressing as the union boss Taketa who is chair of the commission has a solid majority in his pocket. If she actually tries to do her job by trying to hold Kealoha or any one else in HPD accountable they will ice her out big time to the point she becomes so irrelevant, she will either resign in protest or continue on as a charade to pad her resume.
The commission has had so much problems with corrupt police leaders. It should seek to have the oversight to correct this.

She’s nothing but window dressing for a corrupt and woefully inadequate Police commission. The unions and developers have control of Hawaii government
