Public memorial service scheduled for Honolulu firefighter
A memorial service for a Honolulu firefighter who died from injuries during routine training will be open to the public.
The Honolulu Fire Department says it will hold a memorial service Saturday for Clifford Rigsbee. It will be held at the Charles H. Thurston Fire Training Center.
Rigsbee was on a sled pulled by a personal watercraft off Diamond Head last week when the watercraft operator noticed Rigsbee was unconscious in the ocean. He died two days later. The department is investigating what happened.
Rigsbee joined the department in 1995 and served for nearly 22 years. He was assigned to the Waikiki Fire Station.
He was a triathlete who won several Tinman Triathlon competitions. He received a commendation for rescuing an injured hiker when he was off duty in 2012.
