Five Guys Burgers opens first Hawaii store in Mililani

The first of eight Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurants in Hawaii opened today to a crowd of more than 100 people at the Town Center of Mililani.
A long line of patrons snaked around the corner of the building for the 11 a.m. grand opening. Hawaii franchise owners Amannda and Ken Schneider were joined by Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and entertainer Danny Kaleikini, who performed a Hawaiian blessing.
Five Guys, the popular Virginia-based eatery known for its made-to-order burgers, offers a large choice of toppings at no charge, freshly-made fries and free peanuts.
The 2,000-square-foot restaurant has hired 60 employees for the 60-seat location.
The next Oahu eatery, at Ka Makana Alii in Kapolei, is slated to open in August. More locations are slated to open within the next few years.

It’s a burger place. They do burgers, fries, shakes. Not sure what you were expecting on the menu beyond that.

Dude??? Do you not get it??? It’s a burger place – they do burgers – that is their specialty versus a full menu. Oh, they also do hotdogs. Happy now?

They claim to not freeze their beef. Does that apply to the Hawaii location? They getting their beef locally?
I would guess they have a local supplier to ground their recipe’d beef
They’ll probably end up using frozen beef. Wendy’s has used fresh beef at the majority of their locations, but has found that they have to use frozen beef for whatever reason (I’m guessing that cost is a primary factor) to compete in the Hawaii market.
Either way, Wendy’s burgers are better than the other mainland chains here in the islands. I hope that Five Guys does well. I enjoy dining there while traveling.
Word is they bring in fresh beef in refrigerated containers instead of freezing. Hope they keep that up.
agree..just another Burger place. What we need is Applebee’s and other middle-range sit down restaurants. Zippy’s has a near monopoly on that. There is a huge market out here for that mid-range mid-priced restaurant.
Feel free to bring that franchise to Hawaii hun.

$10.39 for a Cheeseburger is going to bring in alot of rail taxes.
I’ve been to a couple Five Guys on the mainland. Good burger but not my favorite. Up to now my favorite is still by far Shake Shack, with In-N-Out a distant second.
Agree. In SF Bay Area, In-N-Out Burger is really good….long drive thru lines and in store lines..all day…wen I drive by the Five Guys store in Belmont, looks empty….and In-N-Out pricing is much lower…all food is fresh…ono…
The Shack used to have great burgers and fries but the food there is bad now. Must be new owners. We used to eat there often but haven’t been back after the last disaster.

Every time you buy a burger at Five Guys, a portion of it is taxed and stolen to pay for the evil rail.

Waiting in a long line for a burger joint? Yes, I already tried the burger when in DC – it’s nothing special, certainly not worth wasting your time waiting in line for.
Aurite! It’s bout time we have a Five Guys. Their burgers are the best, nothing even comes close. Culvers, Red Robin, Johnny Rockets, Fuddruckers don’t even compare. Speaking In-N-Out, they should start taking notes because Five Guys is taking In-N-Out to school.
Is it worth $10.39 for their basic Cheeseburger? I expected prices to be higher in Hawaii, but dam.
Believe you me, it is worth every single penny.

From soda to burgers, it’s dang expensive.
Yeah, after the buzz of wears off, the reality of paying $10 for a burger, $5 for fries, and $3 for a drink (That’s $18 for a meal) will probably kill this chain.
I don’t think it will. Five Guys made $1.21 Billion (yes that Billion with a B) in 2014. That number will only go up.
Aside from the crappy fast food burger-ish offerings… Teddy’s, Kua Aina and other local “better burgers” are all touching $7-8 easy. So $10 is not really bad for quality.
They better then Sonic or even Teddy’s. My favorite though is Nation’s.
Why does Hawaii need another burger place? Smart people don’t eat burgers and fries. Oh, yeah! That answers the question.
Haven’t been to this location, but enjoyed the unlimited complementary peanuts while dining at other locations.
I wish In n Out burgers would come to Hawaii.
Since the food is supported by Kirky, do you real want to eat it? It doesn’t look too appetizing, just the same old thing.
If a big opu is your thing, go for it.
