Memorial services for late U.S. Rep. Takai announced

U.S. Congressman Mark Takai spoke after taking his Oath of Office at the Federal Courthouse.

Services for the late U.S. Rep. K Mark Takai, who died July 20, have been set for Aug. 18 and Aug. 19.

Takai died in Honolulu, nine months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was 49.

He will lie in state at the Hawaii state Capitol rotunda prior to a remembrance service and public viewing on Thursday, Aug. 18. The remembrance ceremony begins at 10 a.m., and public viewing will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A memorial service has been scheduled for the following day, Friday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu at Koolau, 45-550 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe. Visitation will preceed the service at 9 a.m., and resume following the service at noon to include fellowship with guests. Overflow parking at Hawaii Pacific University, Hawaii Loa Campus, 45-045 Kamehameha Highway. Shuttle service will be provided.

In keeping with Takai’s tradition of celebrating Aloha Friday, the family requests participants to dress in Aloha attire.
