UH soccer draws with Oregon to begin season
Several attempts just missed in overtime for the Hawaii soccer team, which settled for a 1-1 draw with Oregon in the teams’ season opener tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Junior forward Sonest Furtado scored UH’s goal in the 17th minute, answering a third-minute score by the Ducks. It was her sixth career goal and second straight in an opener.
The Rainbow Wahine snapped an eight-game losing streak going back to last season, when they were 3-14-1.
Oregon had a 24-14 advantage in shots, but UH came the closest to coming up with a golden goal in two extra 10-minute periods.
UH continues play in the Outrigger Resorts Series against Nevada on Sunday at 4 p.m.
