Woman run over in Kapahulu parking lot identified
The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 81-year-old woman, who died Monday after after she was hit in the parking lot of the Kapahulu branch of First Hawaiian Bank, as Betty Miyamoto.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Police said the accident occurred at 12:50 p.m. when Miyamoto and a friend were walking in the parking lot on Kapahulu Avenue towards Diamond Head.
A 73-year-old driver of a 2000 Toyota was making a left turn in the parking lot and apparently slowed for the victim’s friend to walk past her car, but didn’t see Miyamoto who was walking behind her friend.
The driver stopped, and the victim was pinned behind the left front wheel.
Miyamoto was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition where she died.

Police said the driver was not injured. Police opened a negligent injury investigation.
This was Oahu’s 42nd traffic death, compared to 34 at the same time a year ago.

Tragedy on both sides. Prayers be with you all.
81 year old pedestrian run over and killed by a 73 year old driver. Advanced age had to have a play in this traffic death.
There is no indication that this is the case.
Learn to think in terms of individual people and not groups!
