UH volleyball sweeps Princeton

Hawaii outside hitter Austin Matautia (7) and middle blocker Patrick Gasman (15) celebrated a block in the second set of the Outrigger Resorts Invitational match against the Princeton Tigers.

Sophomore opposite Stijn van Tilburg and senior hitter Kupono Fey each put down nine kills and No. 7 Hawaii used a balanced attack to sweep Princeton 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 tonight in the 23rd Outrigger Resorts Volleyball Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Freshman hitter Austin Matautia and freshman middle Patrick Gasman each had six kills. Gasman also was in on five of the team’s 11.5 blocks.

Hawaii (2-0) goes for its eighth title in this event — and second straight — on Saturday against No. 15 Ball State (2-0). The Cardinals swept Erskine 25-19, 25-10, 25-15 in today’s first match.

The Tigers (0-2) and Flying Fleet (0-2) will meet for third at 4 p.m.

Parker Dixon led Princeton with nine kills.
