Phoenix offensive lineman commits to Rainbow Warriors
The University of Hawaii football team is adding height and depth to its offensive line.
Micah “Big Mike” Vanterpool of Central High School in Phoenix told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser he will sign a letter of intent with the Rainbow Warriors on Feb. 1, the first day of the signing period for NCAA football recruits.
Vanterpool said he is 6 feet 6 and 286 pounds. He will compete at offensive guard for the Warriors.
“When I went to Hawaii, it felt like home,” said Vanterpool, who took a UH-sponsored recruiting trip the past weekend. “Everyone there was so accepting. I saw how much love is on the island. I thought, ‘man, this place is incredible.’”
Asked about the highlights of the visit, Vanterpool said: “the food in Hawaii is so delicious. We went to this restaurant called Side Street (Inn). Oh, so delicious.”
Vanterpool also received scholarship offers from Boise State, UNLV Northern Colorado, UC Davis and New Mexico State.

Big Mike will gain playing weight certainly if he continues to eat at Side Street Inn! Go Bows!
If he has quick feet, good balance and long arms he may be better suited at tackle.
trend is to move the big fast guys with long good hands at guard to better control the depth of the passing pocket.
He’s not only big and athletic, the bro is smart too… 3.7 gpa, with the top 4% of his senior class… good to have smart athletes on the team… welcome aboard Micah!!!
So that’s the trick – take the big guys to Side Street! Welcome to our newest Warrior!
