Rainbow Wahine earn rare win over Pepperdine on the sand

The Rainbow Wahine celebrated after winning the Flight 3 match against the Pepperdine Waves at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Complex. Emily Maglio and Laurel Weaver defeated Pepperdine’s Skylar Caputo and Heidi Dyer 21-18, 23-21.

Hawaii’s Laurel Weaver and Emily Maglio won their Flight 3 match against Pepperdine’s Skylar Caputo and Heidi Dyer 21-18, 23-21 to clinch the collegiate beach volleyball dual at the Ching Complex courts today.

The win gave the No. 6 Rainbow Wahine (21-5) a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five competition. Hawaii went on to win 4-1. It was just the second win over the No. 2 Waves (18-2) for the SandBows in 10 meetings.

Ka‘iwi Schucht and Nikki Taylor won at Flight 2 for Hawaii, Carly Kan and Ari Homayun won at Flight 4 and Amy Ozee and Hannah Zalopany won at Flight 5.

Pepperdine had won the two previous duals 3-2.
