Furlough inmate goes missing

Kawailani Awana

A 26-year-old furlough inmate has failed to return to the Women’s Community Correctional Center after she was scheduled to return to facility Thursday night.

The Department of Public Safety said Kawailani Awana was scheduled to return at 8 p.m. Awana is a community custody inmate with furlough pass privileges.

Sheriffs and police were notified of her failure to return to the facility.

Awana is described as 4 feet 11 inches tall and 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

She is serving a sentence for methamphetamine trafficking in the second-degree and second-degree escape. The public safety department said her next parole hearing is scheduled for August.

Anyone with information on Awana’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 or Sheriff Dispatch at 586-1352.
