The new play area at Ala Moana Center was inspired by the motion of an ocean wave.

Ala Moana Center’s new keiki play area is expected to open on Level 3 of the mauka wing in June.

The new play area, measuring about 40 feet long and 20 feet tall, was inspired by the motion of an ocean wave, according to Scott Creel, Ala Moana Center’s senior marketing manager, in an email. It was designed by Spencer Luckey of New Haven, Conn.-based Luckey LLC, which also created the climbing structure at Whalers Village in Lahaina.

“Ala Moana Center’s goal for the new keiki play area is to create a unique climbing structure for children that would activate the common area of the center and encourage physical activity and imaginative play,” he said.

It is designed for ages 3 and older and a minimum height of 42 inches. Visit alamoanacenter.com for updates.
