Moped rider critically injured by pickup truck

HFD hosed down the scene of an accident on Keeamoku St. and Wilder Ave.

A moped rider in his 30s was critically injured tonight when a Nissan pickup truck struck him on Keeaumoku Street.

Police said the moped was traveling mauka on Keeaumoku near the intersection of Wilder Street when the male pickup truck driver turned makai onto Keeaumoku and struck the moped rider.

Police closed off Keeaumoku Street at about 8:24 p.m. between Wilder Avenue and Lunalilo Street.

The moped rider was taken in critical injury to a hospital.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene, appeared to be crying and said he was sorry.

The road was reopened at about 9:30 p.m.
