Snorkeler who drowned off Waianae identified

A snorkeler who drowned off of Makua Beach in Waianae has been identified as Rodney Olmstead.

Olmstead, 50, of Oregon, was found unresponsive in the ocean Monday morning. A boat picked him up at about 8:30 a.m. and paramedics transported Olmstead to an area hospital where he died.

Police said there were no signs of foul play.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the manner of the death has been classified as an accident.
