A Keaau man was arrested today after police closed the intersection of Route 190 and Daniel K. Inouye Highway in North Kona to investigate a report of a man with a gun sitting in a truck on the road.

Hawaii island police said a motorist exited his car at about 11:45 a.m. to check on the driver of a Ford F-350 that was stopped at a stop sign and not moving.

The motorist told police he saw a man in the driver’s seat with a firearm on his lap and left the area as a precaution before reporting the incident, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter and closed the road. The driver initially did not respond to officers, then exited the pickup, stood in front of it and began chanting and playing the ukulele, police said.

Police arrested the 30-year-old man for investigation of disorderly conduct.

Police also recovered the truck as evidence. The road was reopened at about 2:30 p.m.
