Woman’s body found at base of cliff in Hakalau

A woman’s body was found at the base of a cliff this morning near the old Hakalau Mill. Detectives are looking for the person who reportedly sought help for the victim.

Police are investigating an unattended death after receiving a report of a 41-year-old woman falling to her death.

Her body was found at the base of a cliff at around 10:40 a.m. near the old Hakalau Mill, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

The victim was airlifted out of the area by helicopter, then transported to the Hilo Medical Center where she was pronounced dead shortly after 1:30 p.m. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday to determine the cause of her death.

Detectives are looking for the person who reportedly sought help for the victim.
