Kauai firefighters rescued a Utah woman who injured her ankle while hiking on a trail at Waipoo Falls in Kokee.

At about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the fire department said the woman was hiking with her husband and son when she fell and injured her right ankle.

A rescue crew aboard Air 1 responded and used a splint to stabilize her ankle before airlifting her to a nearby landing zone.

Paramedics transported her to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea then Wilcox Hospital in Lihue where she was treated for her injury. The extent of her injury is unknown at this time.
