Maui fire rescue workers airlifted an unconscious man in his 30s with possible spinal injuries from Hana to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Kahului this afternoon.

Witnesses said the man fell off a 15-foot ledge on a cliff trail near Red Sand Beach, south of Hana Bay.

Emergency crews who received the call at 4:43 p.m. treated the man and transferred him to the Hana Ball Park, where a helicopter took him to the hospital.

The man apparently was traveling alone and had no identification with him, and no one at the beach knew him, according to fire officials.
