A 45-year-old man is facing charges of attempted murder and assault after allegedly shooting a woman and assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Hawaii Kai Friday night, authorities said today.

City paramedics treated a 49-year-old woman with an “apparent gunshot wound to the lower extremities” and took her to a hospital in serious condition, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.

Honolulu police said the man used “a dangerous instrument” to seriously injure a woman, then assaulted the teen girl shortly before 6 p.m., according to police.

The man and woman had been arguing before he attacked her, and he assaulted the teenager when she tried to intervene, police said. The condition of the girl was not listed by EMS.

The suspect was arrested without incident at 6:20 p.m. at Keahole Place, on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and assault in the third degree. He remained in custody today pending investigation.
