Firefighters contain Royal Kunia brush fire near area threatened last week
Honolulu firefighters took an hour to contain a wildland fire this afternoon that blackened roughly five acres near the Royal Kunia Golf Course above Anoiki Street.
The blaze consumed dried grass and brush located within the area of a previous 400-acre wildland fire, which burned a week ago and threatened homes, the Honolulu Fire Department said.
The Fire Department deployed 15 units staffed with 40 personnel, including two HFD helicopters.
The first alarm was at 12:05 p.m. today. Firefighters were on scene at 12:16 p.m., and it was contained by 1:17 p.m.
No injuries or property were reported damaged, Fire Capt. David Jenkins said in a news release.
“The good news is that so much brush burned last week that nearby homes (were) not threatened by today’s fire,” Jenkins said. “That area was pretty much burned out in terms of brush, so that area is secure.”
