Hazmat crews responded to a fire this afternoon at Sharon’s Plants in Waimanalo.
Firefighters have extinguished a fire at a Waimanalo nursery.
When they arrived at Sharon’s Plants, 41-614 Waikupanaha St., they discovered a 2,000-square-foot, two-story warehouse fully involved in flames, said fire Capt. David Jenkins.
The first alarm was at 1:53 p.m. and the first unit was on scene at 2 p.m. The blaze was quickly brought under control by 2:13 p.m., and the second alarm was canceled.
It was extinguished just before 4 p.m., officials said.
Fire officials were informed that several gallons of chemicals, including pesticides and fertilizer, were inside the warehouse.
A hazardous materials unit was called in to check air and water quality, and to contain the runoff, which may contain chemicals.
