An 18-year-old man has been charged for allegedly carjacking a vehicle in Kalihi.

Shayddon Lizardo-Calarruda was to appear at Honolulu District Court today after he was charged Friday with kidnapping and second-degree robbery. His bail has been set at $50,000.

At about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at Marukai Wholesale Mart at 2310 Kamehameha Highway, police said a 76-year-old man was sitting in the passenger side of his parked vehicle when he was confronted by the suspect later identified as Lizardo-Calarruda. He entered the vehicle by the driver’s side door and brandished an unknown object.

Police said Lizardo-Calarruda then started the engine while threatening the occupant. He drove the vehicle a short distance and used physical force to get the victim out of the vehicle before he drove off.

Police had issued a bulletin seeking the public’s help in locating him. Police arrested Lizardo-Calarruda Friday.
