Maui police investigating fatality at Haleakala National Park

Maui police and the park rangers are investigating a fatality at Haleakala National Park’s Kipahulu District.

At about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, park rangers received a report of a body of a man discovered in the Palikea streambed, according to a Haleakala National Park news release.

Park rangers, police and firefighters responded and recovered the body.

The man’s identity is unknown at this time.

Park officials said Palikea Stream is not open to the public.

The cause of death is pending.
