A carport that collapsed in Aiea Heights Wednesday afternoon may have fallen victim to severe termite damage.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. David Jenkins said the carport at 99-561 Aiea Heights Drive had been in a slow process of collapse and appeared to have severe termite damage.

Jenkins said the department was checking with city authorities about the appropriate action to take in wake of the collapse.

He said someone observed the collapse at around 3:30 p.m. and notified authorities.
