Father resuscitates toddler found submerged in Maui pool

Paramedics transported a 19-month-old toddler to a hospital in serious but stable condition after he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool in West Maui.

Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto, spokesman of the Maui Fire Department, said a Maui family was staying at a vacation rental in Launiupoko.

At about 6:05 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews responded to a report of an unresponsive baby pulled from a residential swimming pool on Punakea Loop.

Taomoto said family members immediately pulled him out of the water after they found him submerged underwater. The baby’s father rushed to his aid and performed CPR, and the boy began to breathe on his own.

Paramedics arrived and evaluated the boy. He was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
