No tsunami from 6.3 quake in Chile

A magnitude-6.3 earthquake east of Chile this evening did not generate a tsunami warning or comment from any of the U.S. Tsunami Warning Centers.

The quake occurred 23 miles south-southwest of Putre, Chile, near the border with Peru, at 8:32 p.m., Hawaii time.

The epicenter was at a depth of 51 miles.
