Big Isle man arrested in counterfeiting investigation
Hawaii island police have arrested Matthew Cummings, 36, of Honaunau following several counterfeit money investigations.
Kona patrol officers located and arrested Cummings on Wednesday afternoon in the Kealakekua area and are holding him at the Kealakehe Police Station pending his initial court appearance this morning at Kona District Court.
After detectives executed search warrants on Cummings’ vehicle, personal property and Honaunau residence, they recovered two counterfeit bills, several photocopies of counterfeit bills, several components used to create counterfeit bills, 198 grams of suspected marijuana and an unspent ammunition round.
On Friday, Cummings was charged with five counts of Forgery in the first degree, four counts of theft in the fourth degree and one count of promoting detrimental drugs in the third degree.
His total bail has been set at $130,000.
