Government agencies holding prescription drug take-back day

Another prescription drug take-back day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Leeward Community College parking lot.

The Department of the Attorney General in partnership with the Department of Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Division is offering the free and anonymous service at the Leeward Discovery Fair/Celebrate Safe Communities Day.

Tablets, capsules and all other solid dosage forms of medication will be accepted, according to a press release from the state attorney general’s office. New or used needles and syringes will not be accepted. Pills do not need to be emptied from containers, nor labels removed off of bottles. Everything will be disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.

“Last week we collected more than 2,700 pounds of unused prescription drugs,” said state attorney general Douglas Chin in the release. “Safe disposal is good for the environment and good for public safety.”
