Coast Guard searching for owner of kayak adrift off Diamond Head
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of an unmanned, red and yellow kayak found adrift about four miles off of Diamond Head on Monday.
The kayak has the word “Nomad” on the front with an empty camera mount.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point launched a search of the area along with the crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Oliver Berry. An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast notice to mariners has also been issued.
There are currently no reports of missing persons in the area.
Owners of water sports equipment are advised to write their name and phone number on their gear. The U.S. Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals through its Operation Paddle Smart program which are available for free at the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Honolulu Sail and select marine retail and supply stores.
Anyone with information that may help identify the owner of the kayak is asked to contact Sector Honolulu at 808-842-2600.
