New restaurant opens at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
A new restaurant, Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill, named after Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar, is now open at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
Global restaurateur HMSHost, along with joint venture partner GRL Corporation and Hagar, opened the new restaurant in the Ewa Concourse Terminal next to Gate 28 to share Sammy’s “love for great food, beach living, and rock ’n’ roll music with travelers in Hawaii’s busiest airport,” according to the state Department of Transportation.
“Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world and it’s where my Beach Bar Rum was born so HNL is the perfect fit for the newest Sammy’s Beach Bar & Grill location,” Hagar said in a press release. “Mai ‘ai and cheers to my fans and travelers who dine there and I look forward to starting the circle of giving back to the community of Honolulu like we’ve done in our other locations.”
The restaurant is one of four that HMSHost has opened in United States airports. Proceeds will benefit HUGS through the Hagar Family Foundation.
The menu, a mix of Tex-Mex and traditional American cuisine fused with Hawaiian influences, features Baja Style Beer-Battered Mahi Tacos, Kalua Pork Sliders and Beach Fish & Chips, along with Red Rockin Haleakala Wings. Drinks include Sammy’s Cabo Wabo Tequila and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, which both use the restaurant’s signature Mint Macadamia Mule.
The Ewa Terminal is also home to Makai Plantation, a new gourmet marketplace offering a bar, sit-down and fast casual dining options. Offerings include a range of locally sourced dishes including Market Style Ahi Poke, Furikake Crusted Ahi Salad, and Char Siu Chicken Bahn Mi along with fresh maki and nigiri/sashimi rolls.
